xorg-driver-sisimedia_0.9-1_i386.deb | 293 KiB | E-Mail from Luis I. Larrateguy who made the deb file. Original driver files Mandriva 2009.1 Errata Launchpad Bug # 301958 Explanation of the problem (Spanish)
| Luis I. Larrateguy writes that the problem of interchanged color depths 16-bit and 24-bit is handled in different bug reports and that a solution to the problem now finally exists. (See the references). Based upon the Mandriva driver files he converted the rpm archive to a handy deb archive for all Debian based distributions. Thanks.

sisctrl-0.0.20051202_x86_64.tar.gz | 716 KiB | E-Mail from Daniel Vallejos | Daniel Vallejos has been so kind to recompile SisCtrl for 64-bit systems. Simply unpack the archive and run the contained executable. (Set the executable flag if needed, first). In /etc/X11/xorg.conf the following option must be set: Option "EnableSiSCtrl" "yes" Thanks Daniel Vallejos. |
s671_x64_ubuntu_9.04.tar.gz xorg-driver-sis671_0.9.tar.gz (Source files) | 1.3 MiB 1.1 MiB | Ubuntu Forums (1) Ubuntu Forums (2) Downloaded From Ubuntu Forums Same thread | Finaly a AMD64/Intel 64 compiled driver for 64-bit processors. This is actually a compiled version of the Winischhofer driver. Here's the trick:
- Unpack the archive
- Copy all files to /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers
- Make Xorg use the driver (if it doesn't do by itself) by changing /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Section "Device" Driver "sis671" EndSection
As we all know by now, this driver only offers basic 2D-acceleration and no 3D yet. But it's a driver anyway. :) As Roherich from the Ubuntu Forums says, this drivers also work for Mandriva 2009.1. Thanks.

| Thanks Bartlomiej Gerlich for the mail Ubuntu Forums Same thread, about fixing problems on ArchLinux E-Mail from Daniel Vallejos (see above)
| This is version 0.9 beta of the Winischhofer SiS 771/671 driver with Bartlomiej's modifications. The driver now works with Ubuntu Jaunty and provides 2D acceleration (XAA). Bartlomiej has been kind enough to provide a handy deb package which easily installed with apt. The file /etc/X11/xorg.conf shouldn't contain any modifications. The default version provided by Canonical should do. Thanks a lot Bartlomiej. Gabriel Böhme reports the driver also works with SiS M672. Thanks. Conny reports a possible error with color depths. It seems like color depths 16 and 24 are exchanged. Luis I. Larrateguy reports that color depth 16 (which really is 24-bit) seems to add dithering effects. Thanks both for the info. If you get a blinking or distorted picture in ArchLinux it is possible to solve the problem in /etc/X11/xorg.conf at the cost of 3/4 times the speed of the driver: Section "Device" option "DRI" "0" EndSection
The 2nd deb file installs the tool "sisctrl" which allows for setting different values like hue and gamma. ATTENTION: A patched driver with correct color depth is available, above.

| Ubuntu Forums Thank you Gabriel Böhme for the mail notification. :)
| New official i386 2D drivers, approved for Ubuntu 8.10. Simply execute this file via: $ chmod +x ./sis_vga_drv_161208-Ubuntu810.run $ sudo ./sis_vga_drv_161208-Ubuntu810.run Then make sure your /etc/X11/xorg.conf contains the following lines: Section "Device" Driver "sis" EndSection BTW, this also works for Open Suse 11.1. Thanks Adrian Hospodar for letting me know. As Solano Alves reports it also works for ArchLinux. Thanks, too. Maurizio reports that this driver might not work with KUbuntu 9.04

| Fedora Forum Ubuntu Forum | Fedora user Bahamot has reworked the pcistruct part of Winischhofer SiS driver and Barłomiej Gerlich has been so kind to create a handy to use i386 deb package including a a PCIID file for Ubuntu 8.10. So no more compiling and no more fidling with xorg.conf. Great! :)
Remember to remove any driver names and such from xorg conf manualy or by typing sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg in terminal. This version is for Ubuntu Intrepid Ibex. If for some reason the driver is not detected automatically, add the line Driver "sis671" to "Device" section of your xorg.conf. Thanks Barłomiej and Bahamot. |

Satux SiS 3D drivers (i386)
| 8.1 MiB
| Satux Download Page Ubuntu Forums More information on Ubuntu Forums
| Finaly there seems to be an effort to create a free SiS 3D driver. Hope it does well. The debian package offered here comes with an unknown licence and works for i386 only. Some users report problems with Gnome and GTK+ but it seems to work fine with KDE. Robert Walter has been so kind to try to install this package on Debian Lenny. Unfortunately it didn't work out and purging the package afterwards removed parts of Xorgs drivers. So Debian users, don't try this at home. As it has been reported by a user called jellfish on a thread in the ubuntu forums the satux drivers work fine with Kubuntu 8.04, given the following content of ~/.xserverrc: X -ignoreABI Or - if you don't want to start Xorg manually - by passing the parameter in /etc/X11/xorg.conf: Section "ServerFlags" Option "IgnoreABI" "true" EndSection
Thanks Emilio Moretti
for the hint. It is assumed that this is realy an old version of the actual SiS 3D driver released to a portuguese notebook manufacturer under a NDA. The files are linked against very old versions of Xorg and Linux Kernel, though.

intelsrc.tar.bz2 intelbin.tar.bz2 sis_drv-hardy-amd64.tar.bz2
| 790 kiB 270 kiB 273 kiB | Ubuntu Forums | This is a patched version of the default SiS driver with support for the Intel D201GLY2 motherboard which has a SiS Mirage 1 (M671) chip. It has been patched by Otto Domínguez in order to work with Xorg 7.3.
The first file is a source archive. The second contains pre-compiled binaries for i386. The third contains binaries for AMD64 (thanks nitrousoxide82). In order to use the driver with Mandirva 2008.1 you have to delete #include xf86_ansic.h in src/sis.h and compile yourself. (Thanks DrGang06)
Using the binaries doesn't bring any benefit, since compilation and installation of the sources is straight-forward (thanks Master One): $ sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg-video-sis $ ./configure --prefix=/usr $ make $ sudo make install
Don't forget to adjust /etc/X11/xorg.conf with above settings (see text). pjasnos provides an alternative installation method: $ sudo apt-get build-dep xserver-xorg-video-sis $ sudo apt-get install displayconfig-gtk $ tar -xjf intelsrc.tar.bz2 $ cd 2d-driver $ ./configure --prefix=/usr $ sudo make install $ sudo displayconfig-gtk Click on Graphics Card --> Driver --> Choose driver by name --> sis (Silicon Integrated Systems) Go back to Screen, click Model and select appropriate resolution from generic (in my case: Generic LCD Panel 1280x800), remember to tick widescreen box if your monitor is widescreen. Choose appropriate screen resolution. |

| Ubuntu Forums (Post #66) linuxconsuluting.ro How to compile a kernel the Ubuntu way
| This source code looks a lot like the default XFree SiS driver with patches for the M671 (most probably 2D only despite one file name). Some files even have added (C) 2007 SiS. Although this code might compile without problems the Linux kernel needs to be patched in order to recognize the M671. The attached patch seems to be for vanilla Linux 2.6.23. The driver itself requires XFree >= 7.0.0 and provides 2D acceleration as well as XV/XVMC.

| Ubuntu Forums (Post #111. #112) | The official 2D binary driver from SiS, approved for Ubuntu 8.04 i386. Installation is easy. Just copy the files to X's driver directory (see above) and point its configuration file to the sis driver. For X 7.3 nothing more is required.
Some people report false colors just like this (thanks Skaxxo):
Additionaly there are reports that color depths 16 and 24 are interchanged. So you'll get 16bpp with setting 24 and vice versa. Esprimo V335 owners: Upgrading your BIOS to 1.06 might solve existing problems. (Has been reported on Ubuntu Forums, Post #154, didn't work for me) If you should still have problems with garbage lines try to boot your kernel without vga=... or video=... option. (see file /boot/grub/menu.lst, use sudo update-grub after editing but be carefull!). This did the trick for me. |
